Sometimes quilting turns a bit athletic, especially when you are trying to trim and square a king-sized quilt, and then sew on the binding. It's heavy and it requires some tricky maneuvering.
And you add to the degree of difficulty by not removing all extraneous things from your sewing table.
So you start trimming block by block, starting with the pink corner.
Moving on to the blue side.
And then the green.
And saving the best for last. Orange, of course!
Jessie had already made miles of binding.
And I did set up an extra table to help support the weight when I finally started sewing the binding on.
Mark has been experimenting this week with making "restaurant style" enchiladas. Not the kind you bake in the oven, but the kind they make in Mexican restaurants. The kind they stick under the broiler to melt the cheese and then always say, "Be careful. The plate is really hot." I think he has pretty much perfected the recipe. But, shhhhhh. Don't tell him. I want him to keep experimenting. And it's a good thing he was experimenting last night. Because I was able to do some major carb loading before my wrestling match!

big quilts are so hard to manage! You seemed to figure it out nicely though! And I must say...those enchiladas looks SO GOOD! My stomach rumbled as I wiped the drool off my chin! You;ll have to share the recipe once it's perfected!
Love how you jumped from the quilt to the food... and left us hanging as to whether the binding is finished or not! ;)
All that athleticism makes one hungry, doesn't it?
YUM, Mark! Way to go! (Even thought I don't like Mexican food.)
And I CAN'T WAIT to see the finished quilt!!!
I like the idea of perfecting melted cheese.
This seems like a worthwhile endeavor.
Mark cooks? That is awesome!
I've handled big quilts by sewing with machine on the floor, all cross-legged. (Because sometimes, I just too lazy to get the big table out of the basement...) I'd like to say that it helps but mostly you just end up looking like a crazy person.
WOW! What a fabulously beautiful quilt!! I love it! I have a few quilters in my life, so I've seen a lot of quilts, but this one has to be my favorite (shhhh don't tell my mother in law).
I just found your blog from a comment you posted on "how about orange's" blog. The title of your blog caught my interest, so I thought I'd take a peek. I hope you don't mind me stopping by and leaving a comment. :-)
I've never done a king size quilt. It would be incredibly heavy, and how do you wrestle it under the machine?
By the way it looks fantastic!
Great job on the king size quilt. Is it your first of this size? I never tried making a quilt that big...yet. The biggest one so far is a little larger than a twin size. BTW, the enchiladas looks delicious - you're a lucky girl.
I've never made a quilt that big because it's so hard to quilt/bind/wrangle. I'm impressed! I can't wait to see the finished quilt...this is such a beautiful project in so many ways!
Holy cow! That would take some wrangling for sure! Those enchiladas look great... I hope you rewarded your work with another serving.
Jennifer :)
Wrestling with large quilts is not high on my list. Good thing you had those delicious looking enchiladas to fortify you! They look pretty perfect to me :)
Yum! To both the quilt AND the food! So excited to be getting done!
Is it wrong for me at this time of night to say that the enchilada looks just as beautiful as the quilt? I'm hungry for melted stuck on cheese. ;-) Beautiful quilt. I love the bold colours.
What a delightful quilt.....it must have taken a lot of patience to get to the end of the project.
That quilt is AMAZING!
Oh oh oh... Mexican food on Fiesta ware with a husband that cooks and a quilt to bind!
Sounds like heaven to me....
Happy Sewing!
