Color Combos

I was in my local quilt shop the other day. You know, to pick up perle cotton and needles. and then I went home with this. But we have already talked about...so moving on.
Anyway, the person waiting on me wondered what I was doing with the orange and grey. I said I was making an orange and grey quilt for my sewing room. She looked at me with the weirdest expression.

Her: "Really? I don't think I've seen that color combination before. I just can't visualize it..."

Me: "Really???" (To myself: "You don't get much inspiration online, do you?")

Like this latest quilt block I received from my 3x6 quilt block exchange. Don't you love it?

Or this quilt for sale on etsy:

Or this awesome zigzag quilt:

and especially this:

I could go on and on about how much I love the grey/orange combination. Or a lot of other equally amazing color combos, yellow and grey; blue, green, orange and brown, etc. My local quilt shop thought I was totally nuts. But you all "get" how much I love this color combination...right??

What are your current fave color combos?

Seriously? Clearly she was not a modern quilter, since I would say that's one of the trendiest color combinations going right now! Love that 3x6 mod mosaic block!

I am very misunderstood at my local quilt shop too! They have stopped asked me what I am making. I think your orange and grey will be fabulous and I can't wait to see your quilt!!!

I'm more a fan of the yellow+gray combo myself, but yes, I'm sure my LQS wouldn't get it. I sent my hubs on an errand to buy zippers, and he went into the LQS to buy them, and they didn't have them because "this is a quilt shop." He retorted with "well, my wife QUILTED a pillow cover and needs a zipper for it" - lol! He's got my back :)

I'm loving orange and grey at the moment - and I always used to be a bit meh about orange!

I agree about the LQSs not understanding us! I was at a sewing show yesterday and the Quilter's Guild of the UK had no idea that there were any online quilters??!!!

They asked me if I wanted to write an article for them but then said I'd have to pay £37 to join LOL ...

Shocking really - Modern Quilters must hide under stones here ...

Wow. I wouldn't have half my quilt ideas if I didn't hunt around the internet looking at other people's quilts! I'm just not that inventive on my own.

(And, hey, if you can find other people who've already done the thinking, why invent the wheel?)

I am a very conventional colour-wheel kinda person, although I have discovered the joys of mixing greens and purples together - a few strong, saturated shades and some lights with pink and purple tints to them. Especially beautiful in batiks.

OMG there are SOO MANY color combinations I LOVE there is NO WAY I could limit myself to just one. So, here are some of my absolute favs as well as some I'm working with...
Red/Turquoise/White
Brown/Pink/Cream
Black & White
Purple & Green
Black/Gray/Red
Turquoise/Bright Green/Orange
Brown/Rust/Turquoise
Black/White/Turquoise/Bright Green.

G, I seem to really like Turquoise these days! LOL

That is the beauty of color. It can go in so many different combos. Besides, it only has to be beautiful for you. I love orange!! Such a vibrant, fun, full of charge color! Red being my favorite, I guess I tend towards the brighter shades. Yellow is another favorite of mine.

Time to find another shop. I am still in love with orange. Orange and blue, orange and green, orange and everything.

You should have looked at her like She's craz- grey is an awesome color to pair with just about ANYTHING. I am usually questioned when I buy fabric for 5 projects at once because they think all the mismatched randomness is supposed to go together.

I tend to find that I get way more inspiration online than going to my local quilt shop. Quilt shop owners buy what they like. That's it. End of story. If you don't have the same taste, well, you are out of luck.

I'm liking turquoise and orange right now but I'll use lime green in any quilt and love it. I also meet people who don't know the blogging world exists or that there are great quilting tutorials on YouTube. My favorite quilt is the next one I start. Bet you know what I mean.

You are so hip!! I am fortunate to have a LQS that "gets it". But I have heard of large cities that don't have even one shop that does. Can't wait to see what you've got up your sleeve for these fabrics, Cindy!

I don't think I would have imagined to put orange and grey together but I love them! Very retro!

I think my favorite color combinations are blues and greens or pinks and oranges. I bet both would look lovely with some grey too!

Glad you liked the mosaic block that I made for you. :)

How can someone *not* love orange & gray?! Gorgeous quilt block & finds!

Look forward to seeing it! If Jack hadn't already claimed orange for his very own, I'd be making an orangy quilt for baby :)
