WIP Wednesday: Minnesota edition

I just returned from a quilting retreat in Minnesota (details to follow tomorrow). It took me the better part of the retreat to get these nine blocks done. You would think I could have gotten more done in 2 1/2 days, but it goes a lot slower when you are working with templates and curved piecing at the same time you are laughing and talking. I managed to do some Farmer's Wife Sampler blocks too but I'll post those on Friday, and I finally started the Blockapalooza quilt-along (which incidentally has been finished for a long time...) and completed one block but I can't find it haven't unpacked yet.

So...this is it for this week, my Sherbet Pips flowering snowball quilt (taken directly from the suitcase, therefore explaining the wrinkles). I'm looking for another name and would welcome any suggestions.
No, it's not a big quilt. Yes, it would be nice if my design wall were a bit larger.

This is quite possibly my favorite block:
Or maybe this one:
Now go see what everyone else is up to. And come back tomorrow to find out what lessons I learned by going out of state to a fabulous quilt retreat.

I love the movement that the curved peicing gives the quilt. Reminds me of snow angels. :)

This really is gorgeous - I still have some pips I don't know what to do with....

I love your quilt!! I've never seen Sherbet Pips used in quite this way-- you did some great fussy cutting.

Oooh, I like Quilty Girl's reference to snow angels - now, keep in mind, I'm a Florida girl, and have seen little snow in my life, but I really think that might be a cool name for your quilt :) I love how it looks so far, it's a super great use of the Pips!

I love your Pips quilt especially the fussy cutting you've done! Perfect!

I'm HORRIBLE at naming quilts, so I'm no help...good luck!

This is so pretty. I like how soft and sweet it is by using the gray solid with the Pips. My first thought is that the shape looks like one of those rides at a theme park where it flips you upside down as it whirls around...(can't recall the name) but I might name it "Head over Heels". The children are turning "Cartwheels", so that is another possibility! I'm looking forward to hearing about the retreat.

As far as a name, here's my sugestion:
Pippity Do Dah. (Like Zippity Do Dah)
Okay, okay. It's still early for me!

I absolutely love how this turned out! It was fun to watch you make it. You seemed so patient and calm working on it. You got a lot done at retreat! In spite of all our talking, laughing, eating and looking at each other's projects. The shape of the blocks reminds me of a toy that would topple over from point to point, kinda like a top. Maybe there's a name idea in there?

That is a gorgeous quilt! I can understand the way laughing and talking can slow down one's piecing...

Cindy, I really love this. I love how you pieced those portions. When I look at this quilt, the first think I think of is cartwheels. (You know, like the ones we used to all do as kids.) The flowering snowballs just have that turning, flipping sense of movement, and the little girls in the fabric...it all just makes me think of cartwheels. I love it. Glad you made it home safe and sound!

It looks great! Sorry, I'm no help with names though, I've never been good at that!

Well, Cindy, you know how much I like this quilt (I'm going to make the SAME one - yes copy you)! I have the name Minnesota Tilt-A-Whirl! It was so fun retreating with you!

It was great seeing these flowering snowball blocks being created in person! This is a new block to me. I enjoyed watching you piece your Farmer's Wife blocks as well. I have to say... I had a really good seat at the retreat ;-) Looking forward to your recap of the retreat.

I think you're the winner for comments this go-round! Lots of fun things said about your very fun quilt. I was out fabric shopping today and saw that line, but didn't buy any. Now that I see the possibilities in the fussy cutting, I'm really sad I left it there in the shop!

Bravo to you for being on the ball enough after a trip to get a post up. Quilt looks great!

Great quilt. I have only heard the name "kings crown" associated with the block. This quilt has been on my list for a long time.
