WIP Wednesday: 3/12/14

Well, hello Wednesday. It's been a long time since I've been here.

A while back I read about the Peppered Cottons challenge by Studio E Fabrics. The challenge began in September 2013, with the deadline of March 31st. I had a "lightbulb moment" about two weeks ago.

My plan involved making 288 (!) 3-inch cross stitch blocks. I have worked like a madwoman for the last week. I ordered more background fabric. I ordered the backing. I have no plan on how to quilt.

Finally, last night, I realized that with all things considered, I'm going to have to pass on the challenge. I am not a sweatshop. I would rather enjoy the journey. It will be finished when it is finished. And then I will send a picture to Studio E Fabrics and hope that they like it.

As of today, this is my progress, 202 blocks in various states of completion.

And it gives me time to complete my Radiant Orchid challenge, with a deadline of March 21st. Much more realistic....
I'm linking up to Lee. It's been so long she probably doesn't have a clue who I am anymore.

That made me laugh! I was starting to think you didn't exist on Wednesday anymore ;-) Good attitude about the cross stitch quilt, I love those blocks and will be looking forward to seeing your finish. Lovely purple heart!

Cute heart! I can't believe you got 202 of those itty bitty blocks done in the past two weeks! You should get a prize just for that!

I've been meaning to try those peppered cottons. And your Panone quilt - how cute (and clever!) is that!?

Your crosses look great and I love your heart :)

I can't wait to see what you do with those cross blocks. . . I agree with Jehnny, you should totally get a prize for making 202 of them in two weeks!

Loving both projects! But yes, probably a good idea to cut loose of deadlines before the project drags you into sewing hell. Ask me how I know o.O

Sometimes it is best to step back and enjoy the process rather than get frustrated with the deadlines. Can't wait to see what it will look like when finished and I do hope you enjoy it.

I love your purple challenge! Bravo for saying no to sewing to an unachievable deadline - who knows where the piecing journey will take you now you're not against the clock?!

Both of these designs are inspired! But, it's good to know our own limitations. I'm realizing I cannot enter every challenge that comes along! What?! I'm not Wonder Quilter?! Your Pantone quilt is an awesome design. As I've said before, I think you have a winner with this one. Great job, Cindy!
