Really Random Thursday, 4/2/15

So do you remember when I said that sometimes I go through the carwash just to pretend it's raining? Mark takes his truck to a different carwash and they have different water patterns. I was with him the other night. He comes from Minnesota. When he goes through the carwash, he pretends he's in a blizzard. We really are water deprived out here...

This was just a stroke of luck--I dashed outside the other morning to take a picture of the first rose. The early sunlight seemed wrong to give me any kind of decent picture but I took it anyway. Isn't it beautiful? As I always say, you can never go wrong with a classic Double Delight rose.
Do you have children with multiple schedules? Grandchildren with multiple schedules? I saw this in the newspaper the other day. Seems to apply to our son and daughter-in-law.
I made a really cool kaleidoscope block quilt, which I will show at another time. I decided to piece all the extra scraps for the back and it turned out like this. It was SO tempting to make this the top instead of the back.
Some of you may know that Mark does fused glass artwork. Our church has a rotating art show in the sanctuary foyer and so of course this month it has an Easter theme. This piece is 16" x 16" and weighs 7 pounds. I know that because I weighed it as we were trying to figure out just how to hang it! In some places there are four layers of glass.
It really fits in well with the other artwork on the wall.
I spent a good portion of time this week making a sunburst mirror, following instructions I had found here.

Gluing, gluing, gluing bunches of shims together...

...priming, and then hand glazing with a watered-down metallic glaze. Mark had to figure out how to hang it (two tricky things he had to figure out how to hang--he always comes up with something that works).  We are both really happy with how it turned out.
It's spring break. Children like to eat snacks at the bookstore. And make funny faces.
Anything random happening in your world? I'd love to hear about it. Just please follow the two easy rules:
1. Please have at least one random item in your post.
2. Please link directly back here in your post.

Great randomness! I love that sunburst mirror you made, which looks hard to do. That quilt back really is awesome, so you'll have a reversible quilt ;)

LOVE that quilt back! I'm not sure I could have kept it as a back! The front must be VERY special!

Your Double Delight rose is gorgeous. They are such pretty roses. Mark's glass piece is lovely too.

That quilt back is stunning. Great piecing. It looks like the grands enjoyed their bookstore visit too.

I love that Easter wall at your church! I've seen that center quilt several times, and always admire it. Your mirror is great! If I'd made it, it still wouldn't be on the wall. I don't have a Handy Mark at my house. I wish your area would get rain. It continues to amaze that it hasn't rained for so long, especially when other parts of the country are getting drowned out - New England area, with all the snow, and now melting snow. Have a blessed Easter day! He is risen!

Fun Random Thursday post. Mark's glass artwork is beautiful, and so appropriate for Easter Sunday (Happy Easter, by the way!). That shim mirror is fabulous--you are so crafty and amazing. Great job!
