Color Therapy Thursday--Jumping on the Bandwagon

I have jumped on the bandwagon. The Denyse Schmidt/Joann's fabric bandwagon, that is.

That phrase kept going through my mind when I woke up in the middle of the night. Does that ever happen to you? Howexactly did that phrase originate?

Nothing earth shattering. It was coined in the U.S. in the mid 19th century as the name for the wagon that carried the circus band. Now it just means "a growing movement in support of someone or something, often in an opportunist way, when that movement is seen to have become successful."

Yep, that pretty much sums up my feelings about DS's new fabric line. Well, maybe not in the opportunist sense. Although I have seen fat quarters going on etsy for $4.99 each! I'll just be happy to get another yard or two with my 50% off coupon.

And did you know that there are colorways available in Australia only? I learned about that here, and it's gotta be true because Audrie heard about it from Denyse herself. That seems like a reliable source...

It's been an odd week, kind of introspective. I've been reading a lot, but not blogs. And I've thought a lot about quilting, but haven't sewn a single stitch.

On the other hand, all the blocks from the first quarter of the 3x6 mini sampler block exchange have arrived. I'm participating all year, and requesting orange/grey/white each quarter. It should be a fabulous quilt. But before I show you the blocks, look at the return label on this envelope. When I flickr-mailed my exchange partner, she said she works for the studio head, Jeffrey Katzenberg! Whoa, another brush with fame!

Back to the blocks.

I love the combination of improv blocks, and the more traditional blocks done in modern fabrics.

Now I'm off to my sewing room for a little quilting therapy.

I always wondered about that bandwagon thing! I'm headed to JoAnn's soon with another coupon in hand to see if any DS is left, btw! I participated in the 3X6 all year in 2010. I just joined back up for the next quarter, as I found that I missed doing it so much. (I need to get the 2010 blocks together!) It would be fun if we end up in the same group, wouldn't it! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

You sound like you're still in "glorious-weekend-away" mode! ;) Or something.....

I picked up a few yards too. I wonder if they will keep restocking it for us so we can collect our coupons.

Love the blocks together too.

I love all your blocks, especially the improv one in the bottom right corner.

I have mixed feelings about the DS fabric craze. I don't tend to buy full lines of anything, ever, unless it's the odd charm pack way on sale (i.e. after the hoopla has passed). The fabrics are sweet but other than the dots, not really my "style". Oh well, more for everyone else, right?

I've been picking up some DS with my 50% off coupons too but my stores don't have nearly the selection that yours do!

I noticed last night that you can buy all the Joann's DS fabric online at their website now...no $5 fatquarters off of Etsy necessary :)

Pondering about things is a necessary thing to live a full life...I think. I love the new DS fabric and have been to Joanne's 3x this week, coupons in hand! The dots are a favorite!

I'm on that bandwagon too! Matter of fact, I've gone to Joann's 3 times in the past 7 days buying more and more each time! I just keep buying and buying for fear that someday it'll be all gone and I'll miss the boat like I did with FMF and KJR. Not this time, I tell ya! Matter of fact, i think I'm going to the other Joann's here to get some of the better selection at the other store. So that will be 2 trips in 1 day! I need an intervention!

I'm on the bandwagon too... with all my fabric in tow! I have been to Joann's twice today {don't tell Steve LOL} and I think I've rounded out the collection of prints that I want. I'm not crazy about every single print so I'd rather stock up on the ones that I love.

And BTW, I'd love to know what you've been reading...

I jumped on the bandwagon too. I was so excited to find these new prints at my local Joanns, so I bought some in the blues and greens. But now I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them, so I'm kinda having buyers' remorse. I hate it when that happens. Hope you enjoyed your therapy!

If JoAnns still has DS fabric come payday, I'm jumping on that bandwagon myself :D

This bandwagon is getting pretty crowded! I have been to Jo-Anns a couple of times to pick up some DS Quilts. The last time the woman cutting my fabric asked if I knew of the designer and said it has been very popular! So I am sure Jo-Anns realizes they have hit on something big! I did see on Denyse's facebook fan page that she plans more to be released this summer. The quality is very good! Your blocks look fantastic! Have a wonderful weekend and a fabulous Easter!
