The farmer's wife this week is from Pocahontas County, Iowa. She feels if her daughter has "truly found the right man in her farmer, she will have the best opportunity for ideal companionship." Even though there will be "long weeks of hard work and hours of discouragement..." there will also be "many days when relaxation will come with a knowledge of work well done," time that can be spent with friends and neighbors.
#41 Friendship Star
The farm is where her children will learn nature's lessons "naturally and normally, without acquiring wrong and oftentimes soul-blighting conceptions of life's wonders." Being a city girl myself, married to someone who grew up on the farm and and knows about "nature's lessons," it was amazing to me the first time I saw a calf being born. At the local county fair. In my 40s!
There were probably flocks of wild geese in Iowa too.
#104 Wild Geese
This wife believed that the "farmers of this country are acquiring prominence in adjusting the affairs of the nation and of the world." I often wonder what these wives of the '20s would say to the wives of the present decade. I'm sure their conversations would be fascinating.
Next week Carla and I are taking a week off from Farmer's Wife Friday. Because....we will be spending some days together!! Yes, we are meeting each other, and if things work the way I hope, this city girl will be spending some time with the country girl. I can hardly wait to see where she lives and see first-hand the places where she takes such beautiful pictures of her quilts. I'm sure we'll each have lots to share after next week's visit.

More gorgeous blocks!! I love the Wild Geese! Have a great time with Carla :)
Your Wild Geese is fabulous! Have a wonderful time with Carla! What fun!☺
I've been waiting for the semester to end to get going with my Farmer's wife blocks. Thanks for sharing your pics and for the giveaway.
Wonderful blocks....sigh!!! I love those shot cottons, but we recently got some moda crossweave in the shoppe and I can't wait to give them a try. It is just as lovely as shot cotton and, I am hoping, a bit less fiddly!!! They work like a charm in your hands, though. You will love meeting Carla!!! It will be like the Country Mouse and the City Mouse! LOL!
Have fun meeting your friend!
I'm wild about that Wild Geese block. It just may be my favorite that you have made so far, Cindy! See you soon!!
I want the WIld Geese block. I'm sure it won't be missed by the time you put together your many, many, many farmer's wife blocks!
Oh 'long weeks of hard work and hours of discouragement...' sounds like where I work!
Have a fun visit x
