Really Random: No common thread, 5/3

There is no "thread" that will link this post together. It's just really random.

A month ago, I posted a picture of the fruitless mulberry tree in our back yard:

I took this picture yesterday. Wait until you see it next month!
Do you think our optometrist son, Aaron, would like this tray for his birthday?
We got a cool calendar from our State Farm agent. This is the picture for the month of May. Can you see my name and Mark's name?
I got to go on my first solo shopping spree with this cutie for some much-needed spring/summer clothes. First we stopped at Yogurtland. I mean, seriously, shopping takes fortification--yum!
When we got home, her brother had had a haircut and was sporting a new 'do. It made him look all grown up.
My favorite EVER black and white fabric. I don't have a single scrap.
Riel Nason, with some help from her kids, made this uber cute sewing machine from Legos--it's just like my Elna! And I just found out that she is one of three Canadians up for the Commonwealth Book Prize: "Open to first novels by writers from 47 countries formerly colonized by the British Empire, the Commonwealth Prize is worth $16,000 to the overall winner, with $4,000 going to each of four regional winners." Have you read her book, The Town that Drowned? It is one of my VERY favorite reads from 2011, and that says a lot, because 2011 is the year that I read The Help!
How cute is this mug? I got it from Whitney here.
Remember our fundraising goal? The check was written on Sunday when Mark participated in the last men's chorus concert of the season.

The concert was on the central coast. This was the view from our hotel room.
We saw this perfect calla lily on our way to breakfast on Sunday morning. Absolutely flawless and huge.
Have you been reading about QuiltCon? Deborah and I made our room reservations. Just in case. One hotel with a block of rooms is already sold out! We're 95 percent sure we are attending. Lots of shops already have fabric stacks in the colors of the logo. I ordered mine from Marmalade Fabrics, an official sponsor. The colors are just beautiful together, and I already have a quilt design in mind.
If you have made it this far, I'll close with a song I have been playing over and over. Have you watched Smash on TV? It's a show about the (hopeful) making of a Broadway show about Marilyn Monroe. I have always really liked this song by Colbie Caillat "Brighter Than the Sun,". But when Katherine McPhee's character did a cover of it, well, the arrangement is just the BEST.
Do you have certain songs that you listen to over and over? Do share...

Great song....wonder if I can get it on Spotify? Katherine should have won. Love that haircut, frozen yogurt and your blue door!

I love your tree. It looks like a giant Chia pet!

Well done on the donation front. It must have been really fun to write that check.

Love "random". It is more like life.

I'm really enjoying Smash. I heard it was renewed for another season! I wonder if they will still be trying to bring Marilyn to Broadway!

I just love your random posts. There was a lot to enjoy here, but mostly I wanted to congratulation you and Mark on your generosity with that donation cheque on top of all you've already done for charity this year. Go you!

Very cool that you're planning to attend QuiltCon! Would that take you out of the running for a November retreat up here?

No offense, but that tree isn't very pretty when it's naked! It looks lovely now, though!
And I'm also obsessed with Smash. It's like Glee for adults. :P (I love Glee too, though!)
