I'm so happy to feature Beth today, from Plum and June.
I can't remember when I first found this delightful blog. It might have had something to do with this mini quilt, School Rules. I simply adore this quilt!
Beth, how did you choose the name for your blog?
I had wanted to start blogging for several months but I couldn't decide on a name. I knew that I wanted to pick something that I would keep and had a very hard time figuring it out. And it seemed like everything I came up with was already taken - especially every name that had anything to do with quilting or sewing. Seriously, every time I would come up with a name I thought was unique, I would do a search and someone else's blog or shop would pop up. I realized I was never going to start blogging if I didn't choose a name so I started putting together random words and Plum and June was the first that was free.
Were there other names you considered, and can you share any of them with us?
I
can't remember any specifics since everything I came up with was
already taken (hm, not sure what that says about my creativity!!!) but I
kept trying to include words like sew, quilt, stitch, color, scissors,
thread . . . I can go on and on.
Now that you are recognized by Plum and June, are you happy with it, or do you wish you could change it to something else?
I wish the name had more significance
to my life - maybe if it was my kids' names or nicknames or even their
doll's names - but it's not. And none of us were even born in June! We
all like plums, though. But I'm happy with it and well, I guess it
actually does have a lot of significance to my life now! I don't want
to change it (and what would I change it to anyway?) but it is funny
when people refer to me as June or when people think I'm two people
(because of the "and"?) Actually, a few weeks ago, I came up with what I
thought would be an awesome blog name for a quilting blog and I thought
maybe it was still early enough in my blogging life to change it but
then I looked it up and um, yep, it was already taken! So, yes I think
I'll stick with Plum and June.
This is fascinating to me, because someone once told me that a good way to choose a name for blog or business was to think of a fruit and a color. I hope to get Laurie Wisbrun (Scarlet Fig) to play the Name Game and see if that was how she chose the name for her blog. My daughter-in-law has a friend whose blog/business is Fig and Ruby, so maybe there is something to it!
Beth has a lot of things going on all the time at Plum and June. If you are new to the blogging community, or just have some bloggy questions, I highly recommend her
Advice for New Bloggers series. And don't miss her tutorials! The instructions for my favorite School Rules mini quilt is there too.
Beth, thanks so much for playing the Name Game this week!

Beth's made so many gorgeous things!
Well I suppose it's as good a way as any to choose lol
Beth is lovely and makes brilliant things. Lovely to see her featured.
I love that you play the name game....I am a very inquisitive person.....my kids call me noisy....LOL, but I'm interested in people and where they come from and how they got to where they are today....
