The Name Game: Celtic Thistle Stitches

Fiona is here today from Celtic Thistle Stitches. I'm always so happy to feature a quilter from places I would love to visit but may never have the chance.

How did you choose the name for your blog?

I am a Scot married to an Irishman, who until recently worked for an Irish company, so nearly everyone we met through my husband's work assumed straight off that I was Irish too. It was bad enough when we lived in England but at least most people realised their mistake as soon as they heard my accent, but when we moved abroad a few years ago my attempts to convince anyone that being Scottish was not the same as being Irish fell on deaf ears. So when I started my blog whilst I was living in Riga in Latvia, I was determined to ensure that my Scottish background would be to the fore.

Celtic Thistle fitted the bill perfectly; it is Scottish without being too twee and I added the stitches because I dabble in lots of things and stitches seemed to cover most of them.

Were there other names you considered, and can you share any of them with us?
I really can't remember the other names I considered although I do remember having a blank sheet in front of me and listing a number of possible names. Obviously none of them were particularly catchy or I would have remembered them!

Now that you are recognized by Celtic Thistle Stitches, are you happy with it, or do you wish you could change it to something else?

I am really happy with my blog name, most people including me, forget the stitches bit so I could probably have missed that off but it feels a bit like my Sunday name, which is what we call it in our family when someone is referred to by their full name! For my sons it generally means they are in trouble but fortunately I haven't had to face that with my blog name so far :) So I think I will hang on to my Stitches for now.
Thanks, Fiona, for playing along this week.

Please stop by at Celtic Thistle Stitches and say hi to Fiona, and while you are there spend some time looking around.

And since today is April 1, I have to ask: have you ever fallen for an April Fool's joke? Well, I fell for this one hook, line and sinker. At first I was pretty irate that I was learning of this major life change in a blog post, until Mark reminded me what the date all these years later, and with them living only a mile away, I can laugh about it...

Coming up:
Elizabeth, Occasional Piece-Quilt
Kelli, Seriously--I think it needs stitches
Heidi, Fabric Mutt

Nice to meet you Fiona, I love your key basket - so clever, and so necessary in my house! ;-)
I've only fallen for one prank - years ago when living in Vancouver, the radio station announced that the President's jet had to make an emergency stop over at Vancouver airport to refuel, etc. They even gave the time, etc of arrival and so I booted down in my little car to the cool viewing area in a field by the airport to see the majestic plane arrive. On my way, they announced it as an April Fools joke. I was so disappointed!!
