Really Random Thursday, 6/4/15

This was a week of performances and presentations.

Saturday afternoon, my mother, who has been teaching piano for fifty years, had her annual piano recital. She has had some of these students since second grade--one is now in college.
Two of those students are our grandchildren--they are getting such a good start in piano.
Our daughter-in-law, Christa, also teaches two students.
The recital is held at a store that sells Steinway grand pianos, among others.
Have you checked sticker prices on Steinways lately?
After sticker shock, you might need a couple of bottles of these. Do you ever just read wine labels? I find them very interesting.

But I really would like this one. Obviously.

Charlotte also had an orchestra recital. She plays the viola. The level of difficult music played by students in elementary school was amazing.
It was a big week for her. She gave a presentation on how to make zweibach.
In case you are not familiar with zwieback, they are yeast rolls, traditional in our German heritage. Each classmate got a baggie with enough dough to practice rolling it into a ball, then pinching off a small piece for the top--it's a skill that comes with practice. Then everyone got to eat an already-baked zwieback. Yum.
A sneak peek--these only need binding.
And just because everyone needs a little Minnesota humor now and then.

Oh I really chuckled at the Minnesota humor. Amazing piano heritage with your mom teaching 50 years. And so great your grand children can benefit.

Love the wine bottle labels, think they would be the only occasion that I might find myself waxing lyrical about abstract theory :)

Oh my goodness, the steinway price had me on the floor! Love the photos of all the kids playing piano. So great that your mom could teach your grands! I play, my husband thinks that I should teach the kids but they have no interest in sitting still for MOM! :P

The rolls look yo yummie! Although I very much doubt they are Zwieback (which would be the correct spelling in German). They look more like brioche a tete, which are French. Zwieback is not bad but it is similar to old, dried toast. It is usually eaten when you have an upset stomach, together with camomile tea.

How wonderful that your mother has been teaching all those years! Can't believe the price of the piano, although I would think that's money well spent compared to some things! I'm afraid the humour went over my head :) Was too exhausted to write any random yesterday but am making it random Friday instead ;)

I always love this time of year. Although my children are grown and past this stage, it was always a highlight. And btw, we do own a Steinway BUT it is an upright, and was 25 years old when we bought it in 2007. It still plays beautifully and I hope someday to pass it on to grandchildren ;-)

I thought the same as Anna--they look like brioche rolls, which are just to die for. You must have had fun eating them! Quite the week you've had, from piano recitals to recovering from sticker shock on the price of Steinway pianos--wowsers! No wonder they love to host recitals there. But I'll bet the music was beautiful and the event, lovely. Thanks for your random Thursday!
