The project was a large tote bag, with the emphasis on large. I sewed panels for the front and bag with looooong selvages. I'm used to working with shorter pieces so this was a fun challenge.
I'm thrilled with how the bag turned out.
Two things I would do differently when I make this again. Because I will be making this again. First of all, I would not sew it on my Featherweight. Don't get me wrong. I love my Featherweight. But the throat size is small and you need to go through a lot of bulky layers when making this bag. And secondly, the designer had us use Osnaburg, which is a very loose weave fabric. I love the look but it stretches. A lot. Next time I will use canvas or Essex linen.
I used vintage buttons from Mark's mother.
And the other side:
In other exciting news, I'm in a rock star video. Well, not me exactly. My two New Hexagon Millefiore rosettes are in the video. Right at the 1:37 mark. It was kind of mind blowing when the marketing director contacted me about whether I would be interested in having pictures in the video. Um, yes PLEASE!!
In case the video doesn't play on your device, here is the YouTube video link.
And that's it for me today. I'm linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts, TGIFF and Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Have a great weekend.

Wow! Cool! Really cool!
Nice bag! I really like the folded corners at the bottom.
Love your bag! I just took a bag class and they used drill cloth as a foundation. It's not as heavy as canvas but definitely not as stretchy as Osnaburg. Hope that helps!
That is a great bag, Cindy! Thanks for the tip about using Essex Linen. It pairs so beautifully with the selvages. I'm thinking a selvage project may be on the to do list soon... So fun to have your quilts in the video -- awesome!
I love the corner detail with the button accent on your selvage bag. The linen works beautifully with the delightful selvage scrappy-ness!
Woohoo!! You are a rock star, baby! Or at least your rosettes are. I also love love your selvage bag--so fun, and I like all the details you added. I am also excited for you to teach your quilt in a class. You'll be a rock star again!
I LOVE your bag, Cindy. What pattern did you use for it? The addition of the vintage buttons is perfect.
Congratulations on you block making the big screen!
Famous! congrats. I have a bucket of selvages that have been collecting for years - before they became so adorable in detail. The side of the bag is really a unique look with the vintage button.
We have a gal near here, who's a member of our Central Florida MQG, who's having an entire booth of selvage items for sale, next May. Everyone is passing off selvages to her so she has enough to make things. Hope you have great success with your class. Is it at a shop near you? Congrats on being tapped by Denyse. I'm sure that's a huge honor for you.
WaHoo!! Nice little video and your rosettes are so cool. I think this need to be on my bucket list on maybe a smaller scale. Wish you were here to get me started.
Loe the bag too. I've never done anything with selvages.
The selvage bag is lovely. Did you work from a publicly available pattern? Thanks.
