Really Random Thursday, 4/6/17

I had a friend who knew so much about flowers. She knew the common names and the botanical names. She has been gone quite a few years, but she had planted some calla lilies in our back yard. They bring me so much joy each year when they bloom.
Last Wednesday night, Mark and I went with Cathy and Terry to Visalia, a town about an hour from Fresno, to the Visalia Fox Theater, to see Lyle Lovett and Vince Gill.

What an amazing concert. It was totally acoustic--just Lyle, Vince and their guitars. They sat on the stage, taking turns singing and telling stories, and accompanying each other on the guitar. We were in the next to the last row, but it didn't diminish the sound at all. Truly a highlight of a concert.
Levi reading the comics, after a Saturday baseball game.
This girl loves her pink boots.
Ella, Gabe and I walked to meet Levi after school the other day. The boys were ahead of us on the way home. This is a new favorite picture. I wish I could have heard what they were talking about.
Mark and I attended a funeral the other day. It was nice day, and the luncheon afterward was in the most beautiful yard. Loving water fountains the way we do, this was a fun one to spot in the yard.
Our church has a project that trains six interns each year in urban ministry. We had them over for dinner the other night. So much fun getting to know them. While most of them are from the area, Mike, the one on the left snapping the selfie, is from Kansas. Mark played college football with his father for four years and it is extra special getting to know him.
Last night we went to Charlotte's class play, Twinderella, the story of Cinderella and her twin brother, Bob, although they did not know they were twins. The kids did such a great job. Charlotte's part was that of an old lady who broke the secret in the very last act.

Thought for tomorrow.
Although actually tomorrow night we will be at the MCC sale--that favorite weekend when we see friends we haven't seen since last year, take a closer look at the quilts to be auctioned on Saturday, and food. Did I mention food? I've been on Weight Watchers for the past three weeks. But this weekend only comes once a year, so this weekend I will be turning off the point calculator. I'll most likely be sorry on Sunday, but like I said--only once a year.

Have a lovely weekend.

So many great moments here! Enjoy your gathering and the quilts on Saturday. I suspect that your last 3 weeks will leave you with the ability to choose the things you most want to indulge in and leave the so-so things we sometimes think we want. As my trainer reminds me, it isn't the one-time splurges it's the everyday stuff that really gets us. As always, thanks for the peek into your busy life.

Last weekend I attended the MCC auction in Harrisburg, PA, for the first time. What a great experience. The food was terrific - no wonder you're not following WW this weekend. The Quilts were pretty spectacular, too. I think the highest bid was about $3,700, and the total for all the Quilts was over $80,000 when we left, with more Quilts still to be auctioned.

Your calla lily looks so pretty. They always seem to bloom for Easter.

I, too, love the photo of the boys walking together. So cute.

Have a fun time at the auction.

Charlotte looks happy. My granddaughter learned a lot of responsibilty from her acting experience and her confidence bloomed - I wish the same for Charlotte.

Your callas are beautiful! I was just talking with a friend earlier today about how I want to plant some in our new yard. I saw Lyle a few years ago (he was with kd lang at Radio City), and we have tickets to see Vince - he is coming to our town in two weeks and I can't wait! Have a great weekend.
