This has been a week of Christmas programs. Gabe has been learning to play the trumpet for the last couple of months, and last Thursday night was the school band, orchestra and choir program. Gabe was chosen out of the band, along with two baritone players, as "super beginners," and played a song, just the three of them. They did really well. Ruby is learning to play the violin and beginning strings did very well too.
On Friday, Aaron and Christa went down to Mission Viejo where Aaron had been chosen to ref the CIF 2-AA California State Championship game, a very high honor (Aaron is on the far right).
They spent the night, and the grandkids stayed with us. Mark spent most of the weekend running the clock at various basketball tournament games. So on Friday night, the kids and I went to Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner, and sat in the trolley car.
On Saturday afternoon, we went to see a movie. Quite by accident, Mark and I discovered the "VIP" rooms at our nearby theater. The tickets are priced a little higher, but in return you get all the popcorn, soda and ice cream you want, along with a reclining seat with a footrest and tray table. We figure by the time you add the price of popcorn and a soda to your ticket, you might as well just purchase the VIP tickets. The kids ended up making root beer floats! There is always a variety show first, and it's so interesting to see the different talents. Then we enjoyed the telling of the Christmas story.
Tonight is Charlotte's choir program. And my brother is arriving this morning for a few days to see our father. Is this a busy time of year for you too?

That sounds like a busy but really fun series of events! Do you have a lot more planned between now and Christmas?
It's wonderful that you got to attend Christmas programs! I miss those days, especially the church programs. You can be very proud of your grandchildren. How great that your fellas are involved in referring. It's a good extracurricular activity. As for going to the movie... what did you see? Recommend it? I haven't been in a movie theater for at least three years, and wonder if they're as well-attended as pre-you-know-what. It's good to see you out-and-about, enjoying your family as you always do. Count blessings!
I had to zoom in to see what they made their fancy wrapped candies from for the church Christmas program: so clever to use paper plates! I'm so happy you have all these talented grandchildren, who are just so darling and fun. You must be so proud of them, and happy they live close by you. I think going to programs is a fun way to bring in the holidays!
