Anything but Random, 6/7/24

Settle in. This is going to be a long one. So very much has been going on. I left off with Charlotte's dance recital.

Next came Gabe's softball game. His team won, which meant they would be going to the tournament.

That evening was the band and orchestra concert. He and Ruby did a great job. It's hard to believe these two are nearly out of elementary school.

Ella joined drama club and they performed two songs from Seussical the Musical. She did a great job on stage and I really hope she participates again next year, as they plan to do a longer performance.

It sure doesn't seem that long ago that Aaron and Christa were graduating from high school. Here is the church youth group back in 1996. This was a great group of kids.
And now Charlotte, Violet and Kinnedy are graduating, each from a different high school.

I'm not sure when this was taken. Junior high maybe?

Charlotte has committed to Oregon State University in Corvallis, and I think it will be a great fit for her! But we are sure going to miss having her nearby! Just to irritate her, which he loves to do, Gramps wore a University of Oregon tshirt.
As I'm writing this chronologically,  next up was Charlotte's and Gabe's piano recital. They have an amazing piano teacher, Arlene Steffen, who got a little weepy when she talked about how she will miss Charlotte next year. She even mentioned how Charlotte got her start at the piano with her great grandmother (my mother, who taught piano for 50 years!), which made me a little weepy.

As is tradition, last Sunday there was a reception at church for the graduating seniors. They each put up a display. Charlotte had so many honors, including that of valedictorian. We are so proud of all she has accomplished.

Our grandkids are fortunate to have both sets of grandparents nearby.
Graduation was held Wednesday night.

I loved the fact that there was a mariachi band, folklorico dancers, step dancers and a Hmong dancing group.

Valedictorians: Charlotte is on the far right.
She has a diploma!

She has such a support system of friends and family.

Silly kid...he sure makes me smile.

The next morning we attended Gabe's 6th grade promotion.
He was chosen to be the student speaker and did such a great job. He reflected on different events during his grade school years, including "the time we didn't come back from spring break for over a year and a half...we look forward to who we are going to be when we leave this place. We want to be the person who notices the people being left out...we strive to be the people that don't change just to be like everybody else..."
These two will go far. Seriously, how cute are they?!

We ended a busy week with Charlotte's graduation party. The weather was beautiful, and there were a lot of friends and family to celebrate along with her.

These last few days have made me think how grateful I am for our family. To Charlotte, Gabe and Ruby, who have reached milestones, I know they have many wonderful things ahead of them. They are surrounded by family who loves them beyond measure and supports them as they look to the future. 2024 is just the beginning.

Oh, WOW! Charlotte must be walking on air and Mom and Dad must be bursting with pride. Congratulations to all. What a great family effort. BTW, I remember posts from that year and a half of school at Grandma and Grandpas. Seems like only yesterday!

Congrats all around!!! Your grands have done really well in so many fun areas. And an extra congratulation to Charlotte for her very high honors. I wish her the best as she starts college. She will do well. We need good new teachers too. Will road trips to Oregon be in your future? I enjoy seeing all the activities of your older grands. It's something to look forward to when ours get bigger. Right now though I'm just excited to hold a new wee baby again soon.

Gosh. I don't know how you manage to keep up with your grandchildren! One of these days they'll all have to come and see you. :-) Glad you are enjoying May and June so much. You have many blessings to tick off on your fingers, again and again.
