Sewing Room Wednesday, 6/14/23

It's time to catch up on what's been happening in the sewing room lately.

First of all, I saw this very cute zipper pouch and fell in love with the asymmetrical pocket. I found the tutorial on the YouTube channel of Sewing Times. I could not find printed instructions anywhere so I took lots of notes and there was a lot of play-pause-play-pause...

Next, I made some vinyl project bags for an upcoming quilting retreat with my friends. I had purchased some trending printed vinyl, which is super cute, and used the "vinyl project pouch" pattern from 2018 from Moda Bake Shop (anyone remember the days of Moda Bake Shop?!) by Kristina from Center Street Quilts.

I purchased the vinyl from Zipper Valley and an Etsy shop called Silverberry Pastures. I'll be making more of these project pouches--the vinyl is easy to work with  and the pattern is well written.

I finished another Double Ruby Ring block. Only three more to go!

Here it is with its fraternal twin--the same striped fabric in the center but with emphasis on different colors in the rest of the block.

At the quilting retreat (which will have its own separate post), I finished an entire quilt top!
There were large (4.5") half square triangle units left over from each roof, too big to ignore. So I put them together with more Friendly Faces blocks and came up with this quilt top. I think it's really cute. In addition to all the HSTs, I used up every last inch of beloved background fabric by Victoria Findlay Wolfe. It has been the background in four different quilts so I figure maybe I can move on to something different now.
Finally, this block is on its way to a friend to be incorporated into a group quilt. Wonky/improv sewing is not really my thing, but it was kind of fun to branch out and make this wonky star block.

Coming up: posts about my yearly quilt retreat near Yosemite, and quilt photography in downtown Fresno in the mural district.

Lots of great progress on so many different types of projects. I love how you used up the bonus HSTs; how big did the quilt top come out to be?

That pouch with the asymmetrical pocket is so cute! I can see why you were drawn too it. You have been very busy sewing so many things. They are all lovely. I am trying to mentally prepare to quilt up several tops as soon as I finish piecing the current one. Once I get them basted it will go quickly. looking forward to seeing your retreat pics.

Love the asymmetry of the pouch and the punch of color with the yellow zipper. That vinyl is so pretty. I haven't sewn with anything like that in years. Didn't even know such fun prints were available. You have been doing so many different, fun projects. Keep up the great work and have fun at your retreat. I'm struggling to finish a queen top and SO over working on it.

I sure like all these projects! You're a quilter after my heart. That zipper pouch is very cute, and I love seeing that printed vinyl made into project pouches. What great gifts! Thanks for info about where to find the vinyl. Nice that your Double Ruby Ring blocks are nearly done. Oh gosh, I know that good feeling of being nearly done. We cherish it, don't we? Your wonky star block is just right too. Nice job on the wonky! :-)
