Sewing Room Friday, 7/14/23

A few weeks ago, Gabe asked if I would make him a backpack for an upcoming trip. Of course. I've told all the grandkids that if they want me to make something, all they have to do is ask.

His request was that it be gray. And only gray. I've made the Range Backpack (pattern by Anna Graham of Noodlehead) twice before and I had enough gray waxed canvas from A.L. Frances to make another one. I found a really nice gray print in my stash for the lining and straps.

And a super cute striped zipper with the perfect zipper pull.

I added one of my labels to the back, along with a cute label from Kylie and the Machine.

I know he said gray and only gray, but I couldn't resist adding some color to the interior pocket.

He has also requested a blue afghan. Progress so far...

And this is the fabric pull for a new English paper piecing project--Oakshott cotton and Dupioni silk (although I have already edited the two aqua pieces out of the mix).
Good question...

Happy sewing :)

Lucky Gabe! Great job on the backpack. That pocket inside is a big smile for him every time he sees it.

The backpack turned out great. I have never sewn waxed canvas. How is it? The blue afghan is looking good! I can't wait to see what you are making with all that luscious fabric. The silk looks interesting.

Thank you for making me laugh out loud. That meme is so so good. Great bag and good call on the colorful interior pocket. Hope he loves it.

Love your "blues" afghan! Is there a pattern available for it? I've tried to study your photo close up and figure out how to crochet each row, but can't quite do it...
