Sewing Room Friday, 7/7/23

It's time to catch up with what's going on in the sewing room.

I finished all my Double Ruby Ring blocks. What an accomplishment!

Here they are all together. Each one is next to its striped-center "twin."
I have already sewn them as a border around my radiant star block. I'm super happy with the looks of this so far. Now I'm contemplating the next borders, but I'll take my time on that.
I made two more asymmetrical zip pouches. I love this pattern, so more are planned.
And then I spent a couple of days sewing with rope. To this point I have only used rope from Mountain Thread Company. In fact, for Mother's Day I ordered an entire 1000-foot spool! Since I was making multiple bowls, I changed things up a little bit by changing the color of the thread for the inside. I used a pretty aqua blue on two of them. My favorite was a variegated black-grey-white (the far middle left bowl).

Here's the interesting thing about these bowls. Each began with a 20-yard length of rope. I tried to make the base 8" before shaping the sides. No matter how hard I tried, each one looks a little bit different. I guess that is the beauty of handmade.

Then I tried some coasters.

I'm taking a short break from English paper piecing, and doing some crocheting in the evenings. I had a request from a very persuasive 11-year-old for a blue afghan, and I've always wanted to make this pattern by Attic 24, Cosy Stripe.
And that's what is happening around here...

Your quilt blocks are amazing! I can't wait to see what you decide on for the next border. Love your rope bowls and coasters. I grew up in KC, so am a lifelong Royals fan. The Padres are my other team, after my time in SD. I have made the cosy stripe blanket and I loved it too. I find it hard to crochet in the summer though.

Where is your asymmetrical zipper pouch pattern from?

The star quilt with the double ring blocks around it is so lovely. Will you be adding more borders. This looks like a "keeper". I keep wanting to try making the bowls but I'm worried about what it would do to my machine. Do you think it causes any extra wear and tear? What brand of machine do you sew with? You are quite prolific with your quilting and sewing and hand work.

Love seeing everything you're working on! Your quilt blocks turned out so nice, and look made-just-for surrounding the center star. Still love that zipper pouch pattern. The diagonal zipper gives it so much interest. As for bowls... they're wonderful! I've resisted giving them a go (much like scrapbooking and stamping that I've managed to avoid for years). Your bowls are certainly nice, and I bet some friends will be lucky to receive them. Yay for crocheting again! Love Attic 24 designs (didn't you make the Moorland afghan, like I did?). I know you'll enjoy making it. Keep having fun!

Oh My Gosh! Your medallion quilt is so wonderful. Looking forward to see what round comes next. I love your rope bowls too and really like the black/gray thread look. It does seem like it would be hard to make them exactly the same size but that's definitely the charm of handmade.
