Our newest grandson, Gabriel, is already one month old. During Charlotte and Levi's first year, every month I made a fabric postcard (tutorial here). With Charlotte, I didn't really have a "theme," other than trying to make something appropriate to the month. She was born in September so it was nearly Halloween when she turned a month old. Sports seemed like a good theme for Levi, and when he turned a month old, baseball season was just starting (have I mentioned that his daddy is a Dodgers fan--I'm pretty sure "Dodgers" was the first word each of them said...)
These are the cards they received when they were one month old.
When it was time for Charlotte's April card, I found the cutest paper piecing pattern of a little person in a rain slicker.
After making this card, each month I found a little paper-piecing pattern for her card.
Now it's Gabriel's turn.
I thought and thought about the theme for the coming year. I had already settled on animals, and then realized that his first and last name has 12 letters in it. Awesome.
And the "poetry", along with this year-long Work in Progress, continues...
The work continues on Crazy Traditions and Ticker Tape Parade. The plum block is so pretty.
Crazy Traditions so far:
Ticker Tape Parade so far:
Azekura (Japanese log cabin) so far:
The color progression in each skein of Noro Kureyon yarn is amazing!
So that's what I have been up to in the last week. Check out other great projects here:

Your postcards to your grand children are a wonderful idea. I to am a new grandma Syrus 1 week old and I have a Grand Daughter Charlotte 3 1/2. I will have to start postcards for them
Despite work pressures you have still made such a lit of things! Gabriel's card is very cute. And I love the knitted log cabin!
What a lovely idea , making postcards as a celebration of your grandchildren's first year! They will have something very special to remind them of you!
Wowza, your yarn project is really stunning!! Love the fabric postcard idea, that is so sweet!
Your ticker tape blocks look great. Keep it up!

What a cute idea with the postcards, and I love that wee paper pieced guy!
You've come up with a clever tradition for your grandchildren. Those postcards will be a wonderful remembrance of you for many years. I'm enjoying seeing your Ticker Tape Parade. Such a nice idea for a colorful theme quilt. Pretty knitting too.
I love your postcards so much. Just imagine how treasured they will be as the kids grow. Wonderful!
I love your postcards, and even more so your quilt blocks... but that sweet little face takes the cake! :)
those postcards are so cute! what a fun idea!
also, the plum blocks are just beautiful. that color---wow!
Love the rain slicker best but it is all gorgeous!
The postcards are so special!! What a lovely keepsake for your grandchildren, Cindy. I also love all of the progress you're making on your blocks - way to go.
Love it all, I stand in awe (as usual...LOL)
Woo! You have some awesome stuff going on!
Those blocks are fantastic!
That little guy in the slicker makes me want to try my hand at paper piecing. Nice!
All your work is so lovely - I have been thinking of knitting some log cabins, yours are turning out great.
I love the postcard idea and they are adorable (as is the wee one).
wow you have made a lot of progress! I love that rain slicker block!
It's all fabulous! I have to say I'm particularly partial towards those ticker tape blocks. So colorful and fun.
By the way, I have a son named Levi!
I too love the fabric postcard idea, what a neat keepsake! The person in the rain slicker pattern is adorable but not quite as adorable as that new baby. Congrats on the new grandbaby!
What a lovely tradition to start.
Another amazing idea from the stellar Cindy brain! I love the postcards. (OK, now you really have to come for Road and teach me how to make them.)
All your blocks are looking fine, and yes, the plum blocks are gorgeous (is the combo of the high contrast as well as the rich fall color?) Yarn blocks are looking good. When do you ever sleep?
Elizabeth
Great projects!!! I like the idea with the postcards but the rest of your projects look really good as well :) Hard to pick a favourite...
Your postcards are such a great idea!
Fabric postcards are such a creative idea! I simply love the little person in the rain slicker, where do you find your paper-piecing designs?!
I simply love your ticker tape and traditions blocks...those plum colours are to die for.
What do I need to do to persuade you to send that ticker tape over to my house once it's finished? Seriously, I'm in love with it. And that postcard idea is just the cutest thing ever, your grandchildren are so blessed!
Those knitted log cabins are amazing! I don't knit but they make me want to.
Those postcards are so sweet! What a wonderful thing for you to do for your grandchildren! Cindy, I just love all your other projects! Those knit log cabins are very cool.
Love the little person in the rain slicker! Also love your log cabin knitting, very interesting!
The idea of sending a postcard each month is just adorable!! That Azekura work you are doing is stunning... truely amazing yarn!!
All lovely, but the April showers is the most wonderful!
You are such a great Grandma!
I love each and every one of the projects that you shared today! Happy WIP Wednesday!
oh that is such a sweet and loving idea...something they'll treasure for years and decades to come
What an adorable idea! Those postcards will be treasured for sure. You've been busy! Love all the colors... yarn & fabric!
Jennifer :)
So FAAAAAB-U-LOUS! Love love love!!!
Fabric postcards...what a neat idea! This is the first I've heard of them.
Cindy! Those postcards are precious! What a beautiful keepsake. What love. Thank you for sharing!!!
What a wonderful, creative, one of a kind memory!
these postcards are so wonderful! I love the themes you picked and little message you write on the back too. I have a collection of handmade ornaments from my grandma, which I treasure, so your grandkids will treasure these as they get older too. You have definitely been sewing up a storm with all these fabulous blocks!
What a creative way to mark a first year! I love the paper piecing!
Oh. My. Goodness! How absolutely wonderful are those postcards. I'm gushing! I wish I'd had the thought to do something for my kids, but I didn't even think to make sure their pictures were taken every month. My last son looks so much like my first daughter that I'll pass off pictures of her as him if he complains when he's older. Good job Granmma.
Love the idea of the postcards for each month of their first year - looking forward to seeing the rest of Gabriel's cards over the next year!
great idea on the postcards monthly to the newborns! Sell that to a magazine! Beautiful block work too....love the crazy and the ticker tape.
All the red and purple blocks are just beautiful. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to do that, but I love yours.
The postcards are a beautiful way to celebrate that first year of life.
Wow! You are so busy! Love everything but that little kid in the slicker is priceless!
Loving your two quilts, and what a great idea those fabric post cards are!!
Love your ticker tape, and those fabric postcards are the sweetest idea!
what a sweet tradition you have with your grandchildren!
Ooh, I love all the colors in your crazy traditions blocks!
Oh, what a wonderful idea for the first-year postcards! They will treasure those as they get older. And your purple blocks are stunning! Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday. : )
